John Huy, 79, was walking with his dog, Taz, in the rain. When the rain increased, the two found shelter under a bridge. The lightning was making the dog nervous, so the owner let him off the leash…
The dog, a 100-pound mutt, jumped into the water under the bridge, then scrambled under a ledge along the sidewalk under the overpass. As the water rose, Taz ended up trapped under the bridge next to a drainage ditch with a small air pocket left to him.
John and a bystander rushed to help the terrified dog, but when their attempts failed, they called 911.
Fire crews leaped into action as soon as they arrived. Pictures show the tremendous work the servicemen had done to release the poor pooch.
